This isn't really a reading log--yet. I'm still in the "getting to know you" phase. All the activities we've done so far have had three goals: To get you comfortable with me and each other, to get your writing juices flowing, and tell me some things about you personally and your writing strengths and experiences. This one is no different and it is the third and final installment in that endeavor; I promise.
So, here ya go:
Reading Log #2
What do you hope to gain from this class? What “hang-ups” do you have about writing
Next week, we're going to be getting into our first "real" writing assignment as we begin discussing descriptive writing techniques. Shhhh. Don't tell anyone, but what we're really doing is creative writing. And yes, expository writing can be creative too. If you incorporate a few well placed cretive writing techniques, your writing will come to life and increase your reader's interest in it.
In case you missed it, the writing assignment that you need to get done is found on your schedule, but, because I'm the nice person I am, I'm including it here too. Be sure to read the following pages in your textbook: pp 3-29, 307-323, 587-592
As always, if you have a question or need help call me, email me or send me a text message.
Happy writing.

In this english class I hope to gain a new sense of self in my writing. I do not think I have ever been able to rightly express myself in my writing and I hope to accomplish that.
My "hang-ups" about writing? Hm, that's difficult, I have never tried to pinpoint every single thing. But as I have stated previously I have a hard time expressing myself in my writing.
In English Comp 1 I hope to feel a change about writing. I have always been the student that dreaded writing essays because I never knew how to write them properly. My biggest obstacle when writing a paper is I never know how to write the introduction or the conclusion. I also have trouble on choosing which transition words to use or knowing when it is best to use them. My goal for this class will be to improve my writing skills.
I hope to gain alot from this English class. I am really not the best writer ever! i actually hate writing because i never know where to start and i have a problem with rambling on and on! My "hang-ups" are everything when it comes to writing. i am more than likely gona give yu a run for your money because i just don't comprehend english.
In this class I hope to become a more creative writer. I tend to write in the "FCAT" style that has been drilled into our heads since elementary school but i hope to break away from that habit. I also hope to become a more detailed writer. I never can add alot of details without feeling like I am rambling on. Another "hold up" is transitions. I never can think of good ways to transition from paragraph to paragraph.
In this class I hope to gain self confidence in my writing. I feel as though I can't put my thoughts on the paper as I know I should. I have many "hang-ups" on writing. My mind tends to wonder and I can't seem to focus on what I know I should do. I tend to worry over what words to use, and how to word my sentences. As I said before, I'm hoping to overcome these small incoveniences and gain confidence in my writing during this English class.
From this class i hope to learn how to write a paper on a topic without repeating myself many times and givig clear and logical thoughts that are interseting to the reader while writing a paper. I also hope to start enjoying reading stories and poems and become more familar with the literature world. My hang-ups would be that im not crazy about reading things that arent interesting to me so i have to really stay focused and familar on the reading content.
From this class I hope to gain confidence when I pick up a pencil and paper and try to write an essay. It has always been a bit nerve wracking for me to try to capture the attenion of someone I do not know. It is hard for me to find the words that fit together perfectly and make a five pargraph essay. I hope that I can get over this fear and learn to write the "write" way.
In English Comp1 I hope to gain how to be more creative when writing period, and how to be able to express myself more without being repetitive. My Hang-ups are probably punctuation marks! i usually forget to put one or put it in the wrong place!!
In English class I hope to gain more techniques in my writing such as, being able to express myself better and become more organized in my planning. I have a few "hang-ups" in my writing. First of all, I never seem to be able to focus, my mind always tends to wonder off. I have the worst time starting my essays and planning them. I worry the whole time on how much time I have left and using the right words.
In this English class I hope to gain ways of expressing my ideas and thoughts. I have never been able to express them and make them make sense. My hang ups are that i can not express them in a way that makes sense and that i don't know which transition words to use.
In this class i plan to learn all the proper techniques to writing an essay and other pieces for future classes. i also plan to gain knowledge on how to do a research paper to right way with out plagerizing anyone's work.
I hope to become a better writer in English Comp 1. I have always been good at writing expository and persuasive essays, but I've always had trouble with writing narrative essays. In the course of this class I hope to become better at writing narrative essays.
By the end of this class, I hope to be able to write an awesome timed essay. My "hang-up" would be thinking too much about what I want to put down instead of just putting it on paper. The thought of a timed essay always gets me nervous. I also hope to learn the proper techniques and formats for different types of essays.
From this class i hope to gain more confidence in my writing ability. I have never been the greatest essay writer and have always dreaded writing them. I have never been able to put my thoughts on to paper the way i pictured it in my mind, also i always seem to spend to much time debating over what words to use at the right time. My biggest "hang-ups," would have to be the introductry and conclusion paragraphs. Also, I tend to ramble on and on and never get to the main point i want to say. After this class i hope to have perfected writing an essay and have confidence in my writing.
My biggest "hang-up" in English and in essay writing is correct grammar and punctuation usage. I hope that English Comp 1 will help in my understanding of these things.
What I hope to gain from this class is more writing skills. I'm not a big writer so I need to be able to zero in on the abilities I have to better my writing skills.
The hang ups I have with writing are that I am not motivated to write on some topics. I don't like to read a book and write about it because I have been doing that all my life. I want to be given topics to just explore with and get what I want to say out.
