Many of you mentioned that one of your biggest hang-ups when it comes to writing is not know what to say or how to say it. Others of you mentioned that you over think the essay and can't get down to the actual writing of the essay because you're over analyzing it. For me, I have to have a clear picture of where my essay is going and how I'm going to get there before I even start to write. I'd like to tell you that I sit down and create an extensive outline or do some other pre-writing strategy every time before I write a piece. However, I do organize my thoughts mentally, and I often do jot down an outline depending on the kind of writing that I am doing. The bottom line is this: through practice and experience writing, I have learned the things that help me most when generating and organizing ideas for something that I am writing. And one of my goals for this class is for you to learn what works for you so that you can take it away with you and use it as you need to in other writing situations.
So here's your next reading log:
Reading log entry 3:
From your reading assignment in the text, pick a pre-writing strategy that you’ve not used and use it to plan your descriptive paragraph. What did you like about the pre-writing strategy? What didn’t you like? For this posting, you do not have to post the plan for your descriptive paragraph. Just identify the pre-writing strategy you used and talk about what you liked or disliked about it.
As always, you can generate your own post or reply to someone elses.
Happy writing,
Mrs. M

The pre-writing technique that I chose was 'Listing'. When I first read the reading assignment, I knew automatically that I would absolutely LOVE this technique. It gave me a very comfortable feeling going in and staring my descriptive paragraph. I usually have a lot of problems going in and getting started but this technique definitely helped. I experienced some problems with the other techniques, such as 'Looping' and 'The Boomerang', but this one was nothing but help for me. I have NO COMPLAINTS about it what-so-ever.
The pre-writing assignment that I picked is the interview. I like how the subjects are found by asking questions and getting the answers back. I don't like the fact that you have to find somebody willing to help you out and answer your questions.
I used the listing technique. I find it easiest to plan writing assignments when I just simply brainstorm and write what comes to mind when I think about the subject. Then I go back and throw out the words or ideas that don't exactly pertain to the topic as well as others. Clustering is a good technique too but listing is almost the same thing without all the circles and lines so it's simpler.
Before I began writing my descriptive paragraph I used the pre-writing strategy of clustering to brainstorm and plan out what I would write about. Clustering worked great with this assignment because my paragraph was full of so many details. It helped me see that I had alot to write and that I needed to somehow put it in some kind of order that would make sense. It made it quick and easy for me to just jot down all the thoughts I had withouth having to put them in a specific order yet. Usually when I write I run out of things to talk about but when I used clustering I didn't have that problem because I did it all beforehand. The only thing that I didn't like about clustering is that the circles can get messy and you can forget which ones you haven't used.
I have heared of the "web" pre-writting strategy, but never really looked into it before. I finally sat down and used it for the first time and I really found it helpful. Not only do you get to write down all of your idea's in a really creative way, but you also get to have fun with it aswell.
For my discriptive essay the clustering seemed to be the best technique for me to use. It "clustered" my ideas in a way that made it easy for me to put words down on paper. My paragraphs had a flow to them, and weren't just a jumble of thoughts. It seemed like i was telling a story instead of boring someone with my thoughts. The clustering worked very well for me and i am probably going to use it next time i write. But who knows maybe the listing technique will catch my fancy.
I chose "listing" as my pre-writing technique. When trying to plan an essay or paragraph it makes it easier to list what comes to mind when you think of your topic. I normally organize my thoughts mentally, but I found it much easier to write them down because I could go back and look at exactly what it was I was thinking instead of trying to remember.
I used the clustering technique for my pre-writing assignment. I think it is the best type for me because I am a fairly organized person. I found it easy to branch off the main subject in an orderly manner without a big jumble of ideas. After completing the clustering, it was easy to see which paths of writing I could take and the elements of each one. I really don't have any complaints about this technique or it's results. I will definitely be using this pre-writing strategy in the future.
The pre-writing technique that i chose was listing. I really like this technique because i just brainstormed and wrote down anything that came to mind about my topic. I didn't really have any problems with this one and it was really easy to do, it felt like more things came to me. I'm really use to using the clustering technique and it helpes but the listing felt easier to me. I actually tried a couple of the techniques such as the freewriting and the cubing but I just felt more comfortable with the listing.
I have chosen the "listing" strategy because I have heard of it in another class and it seems fun. I think it will help me becasue I can take all different ideas and create one big subject out of it. What I dont like about it is that it also can be hard to think of something to write down because sometimes you only have a few ideas that come to mind.
I used the listing pre-writing strategy. I really perfer it now. I just thought of the subject that i wanted to talk about and listed things that popped in my head that remind me of the topic. I went through the list eliminated some things and wrote my paragraph. What could go wrong with this approach is getting off subject easily.

The pre-writing technique that i chose was Listing. I felt really comfrontable using this technique. I thought it was very simple and useful. It's surely going to help me when writing my descriptive paragraph!
The pre-writing technique that I chose to use in my assignment was "listing". Other techniques such aS "web", "clustering", etc. never really worked for me in assignments before. "Listing" was the first one to actually help. However, normally I would not use a pre-writing technique and just organize in my head. Nevertheless, I might find a pre-writing technique in this class that might give my writing that extra "umph".
While searching for a pre-writing technique, I found that clustering helped me the most! I say this because when I think of random things that I would like to say in my essay, I could just add and/or take away whereever I pleased! Having this ability really allowed me to organize my thoughts that currently ran through my head and the ones that I will/have forgotten about!
The pre-writing technique that i chose was "Clustering." In the past I have never really used a pre-writing technique, i would just let thoughts pop into my head and then write them down and form a paragraph somehow. After using the cluster technique though i think that i will be using it from now on, it helped my generate my thoughts better and form a better paragraph. There was not really anyhting i didnt like about this technique it actually helped me alot.
The pre writing technique I chose was clustering. I have always uaed listing as my way to plan an essay. What I liked about clustering is that all my thoughts were a little more organized and in order. What I didn't like about it was that I had to use alot of my paper and had to shorten my thoughts.
The pre-writng technique that I chose to use to prepare my descriptive paragraph was clustering. I have always used listing as a means of preparing my essays but i liked the clustering idea because it made me connect all of my ideas together. The only thing I was not crazy about with the clustering technique is that it tends to get a little messy and confusing sometimes.
I chose the 'Freewriting' technique for my descriptive essay. Normally when I start to write, my ideas cease, resulting in no details. Therefore, what I have written down gets thrown away and I have to start again. I liked this technique because whenever you have no more ideas, you simply write that on your paper until another comes up. I also tried 'Clustering', but I like for my work to be oganized. Obviously that wasn't the best one for me!
