Readiong Log #10

I've been reading through your papers that we have completed in class. I'm proud of the effort that many of you have put into writing, and as I looked around the class, it seemed that the majority of you enjoyed the two activities. While I know we have not yet completed the "Snack Foods" activity, I think that you can effectively answer the reading log entry for this week.

Of the two essays that we have written in class, “Me Vs, You” or “Snack Foods,” which one did you find easier to write? Why? What does that tell you about the importance of topic selection and selecting the organizational pattern for an essay?

Happy writing--

Mrs. M

For me, Snack Foods was easier to write about because we had visual objects right in front of us, so we could easily compare the two and find differences and similarities.

I think the "snack foods" essay was easier to write. For me it was alot harder to compare myself to someone i don't know than to compare to types of snack food. It tells me that choosing the right topic selection is extremely important if you want to make the essay as easy as possible.

After having to write both essays, i found that it was eaisier to compare the snack foods. It helped that i was able to taste and look at the snacks which helped alot wiht describing each. Also when you have two diffrent types of objects such as, a snickers and a nutri grain bar, it is easier to fnd the good and bad points en each.

In my opinion the snack food essay was much easier. Although it would seem that when writing about yourself the words would just come, but they didn't. Being able to use descriptive words for the food made the essay flow a lot more. Plus I liked eating.

The Snack foods essay was easier to me to write because the facts were right infront of me. I didnt have to "interview" my partner to write the paper. I got finished with the essay in no time and felt confident the the finished product.

I think the snack foods essay was much easier to write than the me vs. you one. I didn't know much about the other person, so it was hard to compare and contrast each other. The food essay was easier because we were more familiar with it and the compared snacks were there for us to observe and taste. This has shown me that writing about something you know is much much easier than something you are not as familiar with.

After having to sit down and write both essays I found that the "Me VS You" was easier to write because there was no limit to the differences that could be found and we were able to talk about anything in the essay. With the "Snack Foods" essay it was strictly the snacks and that's not a wide subject. Because we are so different there were many things to write about without thinking too hard. I could ask my partner questions that I could understand unlike the "Snack Foods" essay, where I had to think about what vitamins a person needs in their body or do the math on the calories in each cookie. This has shown me that when choosing an essay it is necessary for me to pick something that I can talk about in-depth.

The two types of Compare and Contrast essays that are available to write I perfer the "point to point" rather than the "block system" Even though both of my partners did not show up for the following day of these essays. I still perfer the "point to point". I don't like the transitional paragraph that was in the middle. I felt awkward writing it.

Foods" one better and it was a lot easier to do because on the me vs. you essay i kept finding things that i had in common with my partner and it was hard to write the essay, but on the snack one there were many major differences and similarties and the essay just cam to use because we had the examples right in front of us!

I definitely enjoyed the Me vs. You essay a lot more. Although in both activities I got to work with a partner, I felt I got to know someone a lot more in the me vs. you. It was a rewarding experience to compare and contrast myself with someone I barely knew and see just how different we really are. It obviously proves that you have to pick a topic that you can go in-depth about and not have to waste time trying to hard to think of something to say.

The snack essay was easier to write simply because you did not have to become someones best friend in five minutes. The Me vs. You, you had to find out a whole bunch imformation about a complete stranger and turn it into an essay.
Although in the "snack essay" it was harder to find thing to write about. I find writing about a nonanimated character difficult. Since it does not move or show action, it is boring and I can not find much to write about them!

I think the "snack foods" was easier for me. Maybe because I was hungry the day of the assignment so it was wonderful to have snack. But besides that fact, we had the snacks right in front of us and we were able to eat them to get the taste, have the wrapper for nutritional value, and feel them for the texture and shape. Between both essays I found out that having a topic you enjoy is alot easier to write about then something you don't neccessarily enjoy.
